A compact, high-impact kiosk design and build for a retail brand in Dubai, with integrated storage, lighting and durable mall-ready finishes.

Project details
Retail kiosks in Dubai malls are a study in contradiction. You have perhaps four square metres of floor space to convince a stranger to stop, trust you, and hand over money, all while competing with the sensory assault of a multi-level shopping temple, the scent of a neighbouring perfume counter, and the ambient roar of a thousand other transactions. When Tierra, a home-grown skincare brand, asked us to design and build their mall kiosk, we knew the signage could not be an add-on. It had to be the skeleton, the skin and the voice of the unit all at once.
Tierra had secured a location in a high-traffic Dubai mall, the kind of spot where rent is calculated per square foot with a precision that makes you wince. The kiosk needed to display product, provide consultation space for two staff members, conceal stock, integrate lighting and carry the brand identity from twenty metres away in a crowded atrium. On top of that, it had to be partially dismantled for nightly mall cleaning and survive the occasional collision with a rogue stroller. There was no margin for a design that only worked in a showroom render.
We started with a full-scale cardboard mock-up in our Deira workshop, taped together and walked around by the client team. They pretended to serve customers and immediately spotted that the proposed product display angle was wrong, from the aisle you could not read the labels. That discovery cost us a day in cardboard and saved three weeks of expensive regret in MDF and laminate. This is exactly why we mock up. A render on a screen never tells you how a shoulder blocks a sightline when the mall is rammed on a Thursday night.
Dubai mall operators do not compromise on fit-out standards. Each major centre has its own engineering department, fire-safety protocols and aesthetic guidelines. Before we cut a single panel, we submitted material specifications, flame-spread ratings and structural load calculations to the mall technical team. The frame had to be Class 1 fire-rated, the electrical work certified by a DEWA-registered contractor, and the overall height kept within the sight-line envelope, which meant dropping our initial overhead blade sign by 200mm. We worked with the approval team for two weeks, submitting samples of every finish until the file was signed off.
The most under-appreciated part of kiosk design is what you cannot see. Customers see the product, the brand panel and the staff. They do not see the 120-litre stock drawer beneath the counter, the cable management channel that keeps the till power cord off the floor, or the LED drivers hidden inside the service column. We built Tierra's kiosk with a pull-out drawer on ball-bearing slides rated to 50 kilograms, because restocking from a crate under a table looks cheap and slows service at peak hours.
Mall atriums have variable colour temperatures, warm in the evening and cooler during the day, and Tierra's packaging is white with sage-green accents. Under the wrong light, white turns grey and sage turns brown. We specified 4000K neutral white LED strips with a CRI above 90, mounted behind a diffused acrylic valance so light fell evenly across the display trays without harsh shadows under the bottles. The brand blade on top was edge-lit with a single-side LED module, drawing attention from the upper level without becoming a glare nuisance for neighbouring tenants.
A kiosk gets kicked, bumped by shopping bags and wiped down twice a day by cleaning crews. We specified 18mm moisture-resistant MDF for the carcass, faced with a compact laminate that resists scratches and detergents. Exposed edges were finished with aluminium trim to prevent chipping. The counter top was a solid-surface material that could be sanitised without degrading, and the floor-level skirting used a dark textured finish precisely because that is where mop water and careless trolleys concentrate their damage.
Mall installations happen in the dead of night, between closing and opening. We prefabricated the kiosk as modular sections in our workshop, tested every system, then transported and assembled it on site in a single overnight window. Our team coordinated with mall facilities for the power connection and floor fixing, and the unit was cleaned and stocked before the doors opened. Tierra traded from day one without a single delay.
Tierra's kiosk paid for itself faster than the brand projected, and the consultation space turned browsers into buyers at a rate the owners had not dared hope for. The unit has since been relocated once within the same mall and reassembled without damage, proof that building it properly the first time pays off. Good to know
The price of kiosk design depends on size, materials, illumination and installation complexity, so we quote per project. A small, simple piece might start in the hundreds of dirhams, while large illuminated or building-scale work can reach several thousand. The key factors are the amount of material used, the finish you choose, whether lighting is included, and how complex the installation is. Send us your dimensions, location and a reference image and we'll return a clear, itemised quote — usually within one business day — that breaks down design, materials, fabrication, illumination and installation so you can see exactly where your money goes.
Simple kiosk design pieces can be ready within five to seven working days of artwork approval, while larger or illuminated work takes two to four weeks depending on fabrication complexity and site access. Building signage and projects requiring authority approvals take longer because of the documentation and review process. We always confirm a realistic timeline in your quote, not an optimistic one, and we keep you updated through fabrication so you know exactly where your project stands.
We do both, and we strongly recommend our installation service because proper mounting is critical to both appearance and longevity. Aura Signs designs, fabricates and professionally installs kiosk design across Dubai and the UAE. Our installers handle access, levelling, electrical connection and clean-up, and they understand how to mount different materials on different surfaces — concrete, glass, cladding, drywall — without damaging the building or compromising the sign. A poorly installed sign can sag, warp or fail prematurely regardless of how well it was built.
Yes, when it is specified correctly for the local climate. The UAE presents unique challenges: extreme heat, intense UV, humidity near the coast, fine dust and occasional sandstorms. We use UV-stable, weather-rated materials and marine-grade fixings as standard so your kiosk design holds up to these conditions for years. The exact specification depends on your location — a seafront sign in JBR faces different stresses from an inland sign in Al Quoz — and we engineer accordingly.
Definitely. We work from your logo files, brand guidelines, colour references and existing signage to make sure your kiosk design is fully on-brand and consistent. We can match Pantone or RAL colours, replicate specific typefaces, and recreate the proportions and finishes of signs you already have. This is especially important for multi-branch rollouts where every location needs to look identical. We document every specification so future work matches perfectly.
Maintenance depends on the type of kiosk design and its location. Outdoor signs in direct sun benefit from an annual inspection to check for fading, fixings and seal integrity. Illuminated signs should have LED modules and drivers checked periodically to catch failures before they become visible. We offer maintenance packages that include scheduled inspections, cleaning, LED replacement and face refreshes. Because we built the sign, we know exactly what components were used and can service it accurately without guesswork.
Send us your brief and our team will come back with a clear, practical quote — no guesswork, no inflated estimates.
