Lighting & LED questions
Practical answers about LED letters, light boxes, brightness, outdoor sealing and night visibility — from a Deira fabrication studio that installs across the emirates.

Quick context
Aura Signs answers the practical questions UAE buyers ask about illuminated signage — fabricated 3D letters, LED signboards, light boxes and night visibility — based on in-house fabrication in Deira and installs across Dubai and the emirates.
This FAQ focuses on lighting, electrics and night performance. For general project questions see the main signage FAQ. For choosing letter lighting types read front-lit vs halo-lit channel letters.
LED & night visibility
Illuminated signage is any fabricated or printed sign that uses internal or attached lighting so the brand stays readable after dark. Common types include front-lit and halo-lit channel letters, LED signboards, edgelit light boxes, flex-face boxes and LED neon. Aura Signs builds these in Deira and installs them across the UAE.
Front-lit letters glow through a translucent face so the letter shape itself is bright. Halo-lit letters keep an opaque face and shine light onto the wall behind, creating a soft rim. Front-lit suits retail distance reading; halo-lit suits lobbies and hospitality. Full comparison: front-lit vs halo-lit guide.
Yes — if modules, drivers and seals are specified for outdoor use. Gulf heat, UV and dust punish cheap electrics. We use sealed drivers, UV-stable faces and corrosion-aware metals for outdoor illuminated letters and boards. Indoor-only components fail quickly on a Dubai facade.
Bright enough to read from your real viewing distance, not so bright that it glares into neighbouring units or breaks mall rules. We size LED output to the site and often test the set in the workshop before install. Landlord luminance limits, when they exist, take priority over “maximum brightness” briefs.
Retail often uses neutral white around 4000K for clarity. Hospitality and corporate receptions often prefer warmer light around 3000K for a calmer feel. Brand guidelines may lock a temperature — we match that across every branch so night appearance stays consistent.
Illuminated signs need a suitable electrical feed and correctly sized LED drivers. We plan cable routes and driver locations during design so installs are tidy and serviceable. Complex building work may need your electrician to provide a switched spur; we coordinate that before install day.
IP ratings describe how well housings resist dust and water. Outdoor illuminated signs in the UAE need sealed drivers and protected modules so fine dust and humidity do not kill the electrics. We specify sealed components for exterior work rather than indoor-rated parts painted outdoors.
Uneven ageing, failed individual modules, poor thermal design or water ingress usually cause dark patches. Quality modules, sealed drivers and workshop testing reduce the risk. If a sign we built develops a fault, we can match the original components because fabrication records stay with us.
No. An LED signboard is typically a rectangular illuminated box with a graphic face. Channel letters are dimensional letterforms that spell your name. Boxes suit menus and large fronts; letters suit brand names and logos. See LED signboards and 3D letter signage.
Choose a slim light box when you need an illuminated rectangle for posters, menus or campaign faces and depth is limited. Choose letters when the brand name itself should be dimensional. Many sites use both. Details: light box signs and the edgelit guide.
Yes. We design both scripts together so stroke weight, spacing and illumination look balanced. Lighting does not fix a poor bilingual layout — if Arabic is squeezed under English, it still looks wrong when lit. Balanced artwork comes first; LEDs second.
Sometimes yes, sometimes with limits. Mall manuals often regulate size, depth, luminance and colour. We prepare drawings that show illumination method clearly and adjust specs to the guideline before fabrication so you do not discover a conflict on install night.
Well-specified LED systems can run for tens of thousands of hours when heat is managed and drivers are sealed. Cheap modules in hot, dusty cans often fail within a year or two. Lifespan is a specification choice, not a marketing slogan — ask what module and driver grades are in the quote.
Often yes, especially for neon-style LED and some interior letter packages. Dimming helps restaurants and lounges shift from daytime clarity to evening mood. Not every outdoor fascia needs dimming; we recommend it when atmosphere matters as much as legibility.
Periodic cleaning, visual checks for failed modules, and driver inspection after severe weather. Because we fabricate in-house, replacements match the original build. Scheduled aftercare prevents small faults becoming dark, half-lit fascias that hurt the brand.
Usually yes, because you add LEDs, drivers, wiring, sealing and testing. The trade-off is evening visibility in a city that trades late. We itemise illumination so you can compare lit vs non-lit options on the same design. See pricing for how quotes are structured.
Sometimes, but it is often cleaner to fabricate new cans designed for LEDs. Retrofitting modules into letters never meant for heat and wiring can look uneven and fail early. Send photos of the current letters and we will say honestly whether retrofit or remake is smarter.
Logo files, wall photos (day and night if possible), approximate size, indoor or outdoor, and any landlord rules. For letters, tell us whether you lean front-lit or halo-lit. We usually return an itemised quote within one business day via WhatsApp 0541278113 or contact.
Yes. We fabricate in Deira and install across Sharjah, Ajman, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain and Al Ain. Logistics and access planning are part of the quote for illuminated work outside Dubai.
Start with front-lit vs halo-lit channel letters, then LED buying guide, materials guide and service pages for 3D letters, building signage and neon.
Send a logo and wall photo — we will advise front-lit, halo-lit, light box or neon, then return an itemised quote.
